Kitchen Full of Crazy

Recently my kitchen was filled with teens. College and high school youth arrived in my kitchen with bags of ingredients and a strong desire for a canning project..a canning project for which there was no recipe.

So we discussed taste and tang, acids and alkaline..the basis for canning products and flavor combinations. Girls and guys gathered around the table for a chatty afternoon of chopping and stirring; tasting and tweaking. We made a huge mess and a big old batch of jalapeno relish.

The canner bubbled as clean up was filled with chatter and laughter. From lessons on botulism to faith and frivolity, pranks were played, plenty of teasing was handed out and a lot of dishes were washed (and the counter and the floor and the table). Samples of our savories were tested and shared...overall, the concoction was quite delicious!

Today, the kitchen is quiet (and clean). I sit with my coffee reading the days news and my daily devotion. It's quiet. Nearby on the counter eight jars sit. Eight jars that will remind me of laughter and love, of life and a kitchen full of crazy!
