We Stand

 

We left the safety and serenity of the little homestead

to stand silent along the side of a busy road

as we have done every year

since we, as a family, began.

We stood for the silent;

the forgotten;

the unforgiven;

the unwanted.

We stood for the grieving;

the weeping;

the regretting;

the lonely.

We stood for ones who cannot;

who will not;

who know not what they do.

We stood silent

in prayer

in peace

with love.

We stood;

we stand;

we will stand

for life.
