In the Old Farmhouse ...

In the old farmhouse warmth cannot be obtained by the push of a button; there is no central heat (or air conditioning) system here. Warmth is found in snuggled beneath hand made quilts piled on every bed and chair; soft fabric wraps around you like a warm hug. It is found in the sizzle of a skillet or the hiss of oven fresh bread; too hot to cut, but so tempting to taste.
Warmth is found in the crackle of the big fire place where last year's fallen logs now pop and snap under the orange glowing flames. Popcorn buttery and sweet warms our finger tips as we pile on the couch for a late day movie. Hot chocolate made from fresh milk warms us deep within as we gather 'round the table to share the moments that make our day; a cookie adds a finishing touch.
In the chill of late day, warmth is found in a comfy sweater; so familiar it seems to mold to your frame- soft and snug. There is warmth in the gathering of family, handwork in tow, for the evening 'togetherness'; in the late day call from one working in the cold wishing they were with you. Warmth is found in a familiar voice; a smile; the tender hug of your children.
Warmth is not found in the touch of a button, but in the daily 'goings-on' of farm family life.
